Chukwuka Ekweani better known by his stage name Ckay was born to Dr. and Mrs. Ekweani in Kaduna State, Nigeria.
His first encounter with music occurred when he was seven years old, when his father, who was a church choir conductor at the time, exposed him to the art of music. At the age of 13, he began producing and writing music.
Ckay moved to Lagos in 2014 and began working as a production intern with Chocolate City Music in early 2015.
He worked with the studio until later that year when he was signed to Loopy Music, which later merged with Chocolate City when MI became the CEO. On the TICBN vol. 1 album, he made his production debut with “Third Mainland Bridge,” which featured MI and Moti Cakes. MI also featured him alongside Pryse on “The Box”- Illegal Music 3.
Following numerous productions and songwriting projects for various artists within and outside the label, his talent was recognized by the A&R, and Ckay’s value as an artiste began to come through.
In August 2016, he was approached with the offer and signed to the label.
