DJ Jimmy Jatt is the stage name of Oluwaforijimi “Jimmy” Adewale Amu (born October 15, 1966), a Nigerian disc jockey who is regarded as one of the country’s pioneering hiphop DJs.
He began his music career as a rapper under the moniker Master J, but after failing to sign with a record company and releasing a couple of tracks, including a demo recording, he turned to DJing.
He is well known for his Jimmy’s Jump Off performance, which he began in 2008 and has since grown to become one of Nigeria’s most popular entertainment events.
For his contributions to hip-hop in Nigeria, he received the Hip Hop World Hall of Fame award at the inaugural edition of The Headies in 2006.
Jimmy Jatt hails from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, although he grew up in Lagos Island, Lagos State, Nigeria, where he had his primary and secondary school.
Jimmy Jatt was born to a father who was a sound equipment merchant, and he showed an early interest in music. Pop, afrojuju, highlife, afrobeat, jazz, hip-hop, rhythm and blues, and soul were among the genres he grew up listening to.
He began his career as a rapper under the stage name Master J, but after failing to gain a record label contract despite releasing multiple tracks and demos, he had to move to DJing.
He quickly rose to prominence as a DJ after organising the “Road Block” street carnival, which included lyrical rap bouts between up-and-coming and underground rappers.
