Johnny Drille, real name John Ighodaro, was born and reared in Edo State, Nigeria. He comes from a family of seven, including a father who is a clergyman and a mother who is also a clergywoman.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in English and Literature from the University of Benin in 2012.

He is a singer, songwriter, producer, and sound engineer who specializes in folk and alternative music. He began his musical career at his father’s church when he was very young, and he learned to sing around his siblings, particularly his older sister.

When he first started using cassette recorders in 2006, he decided to teach himself music production.

In 2013, he was a contestant on the MTN Project Fame Academy’s 6th Edition.

Johnny has been releasing tracks as an artist, but they had gone undetected until January 2015, when his cover of Di’ja’s ‘Awww’ got Don Jazzy’s attention.

Mavin Records’ head honcho congratulated him on Twitter. That was his first encounter with the CEO of Mavin Records.

More people heard him because of the cover. In June of the same year, he released an own creation, the Christian country/folksy ballad ‘Love Don’t Lie.’

The massively accepted ‘Wait For Me,’ which topped most of the Nigerian alternative charts, was released on August 12, 2015.

In February 2016, he released the folksy love ballad ‘My Beautiful Love,’ which is about real love.

He acknowledges that he didn’t start out with the folk sound, as he tried his hand at a variety of genres including highlife, hip-hop, and even afro-pop, but none of them worked out until he discovered Mumford & Sons’ songs. Check out Johnny Drille’s Songs, Videos and Albums below!
