Ketchup is a Nigerian Afro Dancehall recording artist who is now signed to SKiLAMATiC at the time of writing.
Born Onyido Nkemjika, he was influenced by Ebenezer Obey, Sir Sina Peters, Bob Marley, and a slew of other artists.
He attended St Leos School and Federal Government College Ijanikin for his secondary school.
He attended Obafemi Awolowo University in Ife for a few years before continuing his study at Atlantic College in KL, Malaysia, where he studied Mass Communications.
In 2010, he released his first single, ‘Nuvo,’ which featured DJ Jam Jam from the United Kingdom. That year, the song won him the prestigious Malaysian AEA awards and gained a lot of attention.
He moved to Nigeria in 2012 and recorded the single “On the Beat” with Rayce. During this period, he chose to change the direction of his music from the previously released ‘Show Me Yuh Rozay.’
The song received a lot of radio and club play around the country. On Cool FM’s top ten songs, MTN’s top ten jams, and Beat 99.9 FM’s Blackberry top ten songs, it became the country’s number one song.
Ketchup made his official video for ‘Show Me Yuh Rozay’ in March 2013, cementing his status as the new dancehall King in town.
It lasted on the music charts for months after being shot by Square Ball. In June, he released two more songs, ‘Pass As You GO’ and ‘Cocoa Banana,’ both featuring Banky W, and later released a remix of his smash song ‘Show Me Yur Rozay,’ which included Olamide and Phyno, and ‘Holy Mic,’ which featured Olamide and Phyno.
