Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano, and Savara Mudigi established the Kenyan afro-pop band Sauti Sol in Nairobi in 2005.

Polycarp Otieno, the guitarist, joined the group before they called themselves Sauti.

Mwanzo, Sauti Sol’s debut studio album, was released on November 1, 2008, to critical acclaim.

Sol Filosofia, their second studio album, was released on February 25, 2011, and received numerous honors and nominations. The band collaborated with South African rapper and song producer Spoek Mathambo to create a self-titled extended play on June 18, 2012.

Sauti Sol fans throughout the world were able to download their third studio album, Live and Die in Afrika, for free for 48 hours as an early Christmas present on November 21, 2015.

The album was self-produced by Sauti Sol and released under their imprint label Sauti Sol Entertainment. During the free download period, 400,000 downloads were made.

The band has had successful tours in Africa and Europe, topped Kenyan charts, and gained international attention with shows in Europe and the United States, as well as television appearances and various accolades and nominations, including a concert in Kenya in 2011 with Ladysmith Black Mambazo, a South African a cappella group.

Kisima Music Awards, Channel O Music Video Awards, MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act, and BET Awards 2015 are just a few of the awards and nominations the band has received both locally and internationally. Check out Sauti Sol’s Songs, Videos and Albums below!
