Swati Maliwal Biography

Indian social activist Swati Maliwal is the current Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women. She is also a member of the Indian Parliament (DCW). She was born on December 26th, 1984 in the city of Ghaziabad, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Education

Amity International School in Noida is where Swati Maliwal had her secondary education and graduated. At the University of Delhi, she studied Journalism and Mass Communication and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in the subject. After that, she went on to get a postgraduate diploma in social work from the Delhi School of Social Work, which is affiliated with the University of Delhi.

Career

Swati Maliwal started her professional life by working as an intern for the non-governmental organization Jagori. In subsequent years, she began working as a consultant for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Parivartan is a non-governmental organization that she established in 2008 with the mission of increasing openness and responsibility in government. The group has been active in a number of movements and campaigns, some of which include the fight for the right to information, the struggle against corruption, and the movement against female foeticide.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, named Swati Maliwal to the position of Chairman of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) in July 2015. Women who have been victims of domestic abuse, sexual harassment, or any other type of gender-based violence have benefited greatly from the help that the DCW has been able to provide for them because of her leadership of the organization. She has also been engaged in a number of programs that try to improve the safety and security of women in Delhi, such as the introduction of the ‘Mahila Suraksha Dals,’ which translates to ‘Women’s Safety Squads.’

The “Rape Roko” campaign was initiated by Swati Maliwal in the year 2016, and its primary objective is to put an end to rape and other forms of sexual violence against women in India. The campaign includes a number of different initiatives, such as the formation of a Special Task Force to investigate and prosecute cases of rape and sexual violence, the creation of a helpline that is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for women who are in need of assistance, and the establishment of a “One Stop Center” for women who have been affected by violence.

Personal Life

The Jai Hind Foundation was established by social activist Swati Maliwal’s husband, Navin Jaihind, who is also the founder of the Jai Hind Foundation. The pair is parents to a little girl who goes by name of Naiyya.

Awards and Recognition

The contributions that Swati Maliwal has made in the fields of social work and advocacy have earned her recognition. Forbes India recognized her as one of the “100 Most Important Persons in India” in the year 2017, and she was awarded this honor. In 2018, she was also presented with the “Nari Shakti Puraskar,” which translates to “Women’s Empowerment Award,” by the President of India.
