BREAKING: Manchester City win first Champions League trophy, complete historic treble

A goal scored by Rodri in the second half of the Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan gave the favorites a 1-0 victory against the underdogs, allowing Pep Guardiola’s team to round off an incredible treble. The result gave Manchester City its first taste of Champions League success.

In the middle of the second half at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Rodri scored the game-winning goal off of a cutback by Bernardo Silva. This goal was decided in a match where City was disrupted from their normal rhythm, and Kevin De Bruyne was injured.

Erling Haaland, who scored 52 goals during the regular season, failed to find the back of the net for the sixth consecutive game. Still, City managed to win against opponents who were never supposed to advance this far in the first place.

The City is the first English team to win a trifecta in domestic competitions since Manchester United in 1999. They have already won the Premier League for the fifth time in the last six seasons and won the FA Cup.

In the same month, 24 years ago, City defeated Gillingham in the play-off final of the English third-tier competition by winning on penalties.

Two years after losing to Chelsea in their first final, they established themselves as the best team in England and won the most prestigious title in European club football. This victory comes after they lost the first final they played in two years ago.

Sheikh Mansour, the owner of Manchester City, made a very unusual visit at a City game to watch his team cap their journey from also-rans to superpowers in the years since he bought the club in 2008. He watched the match as his team capped their ascension during the match.

In the meantime, Guardiola enters an elite company of coaches who have won the Champions League three times. This accomplishment comes twelve years after the last time he lifted the cup with Barcelona.

However, despite having breezed past RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid on their way to the final, City did not have it easy against Inter, who had Federico Dimarco and Romelu Lukaku, who came on as a substitute; both came close to equalizing the score in the last minutes.

Inter had hoped to pull off a miraculous comeback and win the championship for a record-tying fourth time. It was not meant to be, but the team captained by Simone Inzaghi will participate in the tournament again during the following year.

After Milan, Manchester will become just the second City in the world to produce two different champions of the same competition if Pep Guardiola’s team is victorious and the City’s rivals, Manchester United, also win their three crowns.

The Champions League final that had just taken place at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium could not be compared to the excitement of this event.

In 2005, Liverpool was victorious at this venue after returning from a three-goal deficit against AC Milan to tie the game at 3-3 and then won on penalties.

However, a year after, unrest marred the final at the Stade de France in Paris, and it went ahead without major incidents. This was the case even though the stadium’s location, around 25 kilometers west of the central part of Istanbul, needed to make it easier for supporters to get there.

If Roberto De Zerbi and the Albion were to inflict further misery on last season’s treble winners, it would be the first time Pep Guardiola will have lost three Premier League games on the bounce since his arrival at the Etihad Stadium in 2016.
