Ludwig van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist who lived from 1770 until his death in 1827. He is widely regarded as the most influential individual in the development of Western music.

There is some degree of uncertainty over the exact date when Ludwig van Beethoven was born in December 1770. The 17th was the day of his baptism.

The composition of a set of nine piano variations in 1782 is considered to be Beethoven’s earliest known work to have been recorded.

In 1792, Beethoven made the move to Vienna, where he became acquainted with important artists such as Haydn and began to produce music on a more serious level.

By the year 1796, he was already experiencing tinnitus and was gradually losing his hearing.

In the year 1802, Beethoven wrote his Piano Sonata No. 14 (often known as “Moonlight”).

The Third Symphony also referred to as the “Eroica,” was finished in the year 1804. The genre of the symphony was ultimately transformed as a result of this work.

One of the most well-known pieces of music ever written can be found at the beginning of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, which was composed in 1808.

During the “middle stage” of Beethoven’s career, he also wrote keyboard works such as the Waldstein and Apassionata sonatas, in addition to his lone opera, Fidelio, which went through a significant number of drafts and changes.

Another one of Beethoven’s works that have stood the test of time and maintained its level of popularity is the Ninth Symphony, also known as the “Choral,” which was composed in 1824. The use of choral voices in a big symphony was being pioneered for the very first time by this particular composer.
Even though Beethoven’s declining health and worsening hearing caused a decline in his output in the later years of his life, he was still able to write significant pieces, such as his “Late Quartets” in 1825, which were extremely innovative for their time period.

After a protracted illness that has been variably linked to alcoholism, hepatitis, cirrhosis, and pneumonia, Beethoven passed away on March 26, 1827, in Vienna. His death occurred after a long illness.

Did you know?
Fidelio was the sole opera that Beethoven ever wrote, and it took him many years to perfect it. Before settling on the area that he liked, he rewrote it no less than 18 times and came up with four other overtures to consider.
