Afrobeat artists continue to make progress not just in Nigeria but also in other countries around the world; several music artists are working tirelessly to succeed in the Nigerian music industry, striving to stand out.

Although the fifth month of May 2025 has not yet ended, several music projects have already been released by top Nigerian music artists, including Burna Boy, BNXN, and others.

In this article, I will mention who ruled in May 2025 between BNXN, Burna Boy, and Asaka. 

BNXN 

BNXN is a popular Nigerian music artist born Daniel Benson in 1997. He is known for his ability to blend Afrobeat, R&B, and hip-hop. He came into the limelight in the Nigerian music industry with his single “Lenu.” 

Over the years, BNXN has been able to secure several collaborations with artists like Ladipoe and Olamide, which have boosted his profile in the Afrobeat scene. 

In May 2025, the Nigerian Afrobeats artist BNXN (formerly known as Buju) dropped his first single of the year, titled “Cutesy”, on May 8, 2025. He was able to mark his return to his music style, blending early 2000s R&B vibes with mellow trap beats. 

The single was produced by Jiggy, “Cutesy.” his fans have reacted and given positive reviews to the single on several social media platforms, especially TikTok.

Burna Boy 

Burna Boy is also one of the biggest Nigerian music artists who dropped the music project in May 2025. He was born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu in 1991. The Grammy-winning Nigerian music artist became globally recognised with hits like “Ye” and “On the Low.” he blends Afrobeat, dancehall, reggae, and hip-hop. 

Likewise, his 2018 album Outside, African Giant (2019), and Twice as Tall (2020), which went on to win a Grammy. 

Burna Boy’s latest single, released in May 2025, is “Sweet Love“. It was dropped on several streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, and others on May 2nd, 2025. Also, Burna Boy dropped “Update (Mixed)” on May 2nd, 2025,

Asake

Asake is one of the biggest Nigerian singers and songwriters, whose real name is Ahmed Ololade. He came into the limelight when he was signed to YBNL Nation in 2022. 

Asaka has ruled the Nigerian music industry with several hit songs  like “Sungba” and “Peace Be Unto You.” 

In 2025, Asake released “Why Love” under his label, Giran Republic, blending house music witrobeat influences.

Currently, Asake has not released any new singles in May 2025. His most recent song, “Why Love,” was released on. February 12, 202songstill trending on several streaming platforms.
