South African Maskandi artist Malindisa Kamnyovu returns with “Ngyazisola Ngawe,” the title track off her 3-song project of the same name. It’s the second cut on the EP, sitting right in the emotional center of the project.
Malindisa Kamnyovu’s been steadily building a name for herself as a traditional storyteller within Maskandi, and this EP leans heavily into that reputation. The project as a whole digs into personal regret, betrayal and the courage it takes to face disappointment head-on. “Ngyazisola Ngawe” specifically deals with regret, the title itself translates loosely to a confession of wishing things went differently.
The production stays rooted in traditional Maskandi instrumentation, acoustic guitar leading the arrangement with minimal outside interference. Nothing here reaches for modern polish or crossover sound. Instead, the arrangement stays patient, giving the regret in the lyrics room to actually settle.
Malindisa Kamnyovu leads with her usual commanding, seasoned tone, delivering each line with real conviction. The regret stays front and center throughout the record.
