Maite Emily Nkoana-Mashabane is a prominent politician and diplomat in South Africa. She has held several posts within the South African government. She was born on September 22nd, 1963, in Ga-Makanye, Limpopo, South Africa.

In the 1980s, Nkoana-Mashabane actively participated in the fight against apartheid and was a member of the African National Party (ANC) when she first entered the political arena. After that, she was a member of the Limpopo Province Legislature from 1994 to 2000; she ran for and won a seat in the National Assembly in 2000.

Nkoana-Mashabane was first appointed to the position of Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy in 2004. Then she was elevated to Minister of International Relations and Cooperation in 2009. She has represented South Africa as Minister of International Relations and Cooperation in various international organizations, including the United Nations and the African Union. In addition, she has been instrumental in advancing South Africa’s foreign policy agenda, which primarily emphasizes the consolidation of peace and security throughout the African continent.

Nkoana-Mashabane has also held the position of Chairwoman of the Executive Council of the African Union. She has been actively engaged in initiatives to advance economic integration and development throughout the continent. In addition to her work in politics, she is also a member of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress (ANC).

Nkoana-Mashabane has a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and Psychology from the University of the North, now known as the University of Limpopo. In addition, she has a Certificate in Labour Law from the University of Johannesburg. Both of these degrees are from South Africa.

Nkoana-Mashabane has been presented with several awards in recognition of her contributions to the growth of South Africa and the rest of the African continent. Two of these awards, the Order of Luthuli in Silver in 2011 and the Order of the Baobab in Silver in 2019, were presented to her by the government of South Africa.
