South African producer SGVO ends his “Afro Archives” project with “Bassbox!,” featuring Scotts Maphuma and Benzoo.
Sitting as the fifth and final track on the five-song compilation, “SGVO Bassbox!” closes things out with real energy. This isn’t a quiet closer. Instead, it matches the pattern SGVO set earlier on the project with “Thando Awpheli” and “Oko Oko.” Both of those tracks also leaned on established Amapiano voices for extra depth.
Scotts Maphuma brings genuine pull to any collaboration he joins. The Daveyton-born artist, real name Mpho Lebajoa, built his reputation on fusing electronic sounds with traditional African rhythms. His recent teased singles, “Passport” and “Originally Fantastic,” kept fans consistently engaged throughout the year. Benzoo still rounds out the pairing, adding vocal texture beside Scotts Maphuma’s energetic delivery.
Ending “Afro Archives” on this note says something about SGVO’s sequencing instincts. Instead of fading out quietly, SGVO chose to close with one of the compilation’s most star-powered collaborations. So “SGVO Bassbox!” leaves listeners with maximum energy right as the project wraps. That decision gives the whole five-track project a strong, memorable finish.
SGVO has built his “Afro Archives” project around collaboration from the very first track. Tycoon, Makhanj, Shakes & Les, Artwork Sounds, and Young Stunna all appeared earlier on the same five-song compilation. So “Bassbox!” continues that same pattern right through to the final track. Each collaboration adds a different flavor, yet the whole project stays connected through SGVO’s own production style.
Give “Bassbox!” a listen and let us know how it closes things out for you.
